SUSPEND BRITISH AIRWAYS, VIRGIN ATLANTIC FLIGHTS TO NIGERIA, FALANA TELLS FGN
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, has called for the suspension of flight operations to Nigeria by British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. This, he said, was due to Air Peace's denial of the right to operate to London. The legal star said British airlines should also be suspended pending Nigerian Air Peace being allowed to fly the Lagos-London route as well in accordance with the provisions of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) signed by Nigeria and the United Kingdom . This is despite the fact that UK Airlines, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, operate 21 weekly flights to Nigeria. He was quoted as speaking at the just concluded conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Abuja. This decision has been applauded by many travel agents in Nigeria as they have suffered some of the UK aviation policies which according to them has never been fair to Nigerian travel agents and travellers. They urged the federal government to act fast and bring equity and fairness to international travel relations. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
